Hong Kong International Art Fair

ArtHK 09, Hong Kong, 14-17 May

With so many Art Fairs not going ahead this year and with Hong Kong such a financially driven city I wonder how this event will go. However it is exciting to see high quality events a little closer to home. Some great galleries that I often feature here at constructing art such as Gallery Barry Keldoulis and Grantpirrie, and several other will be attending. So good luck to all of them. I am also very excited to see the work of Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor, Cai Guo-Qiang and Jitish Kallat at the fair.

Ben Quilty, There But For The Grace Of God Go I No. 2, 2009

Sydney gallery GRANTPIRRIE is certainly having a great week, Lionel Bawden just won the Wynne Prize last week and artist Ben Quilty (who they also represent) was stated by The Australian to be part of the final two paintings considered for the winner of the Archibald Prize for 2009. Quilty has now won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for $150,000 with a painting of Jimmy Barnes, similar to one entered into the Archibald There But For The Grace Of God Go I No. 2.

GRANTPIRRIE

... is set to open tomorrow night with two great exhibitions and really seems to be continuing the great work coming out of the Redfern and Waterloo galleries including gbk, BREENSPACE, Anna Schwartz @ Carriageworks and the usually Danks St gang. This stuff is definitely making it worth the schlep out there - good work!
