James Paterson - Harvest
Installation View
left: The Rotten Fruit Tardis, 2009
right: paintings from the Code Smell series, 2009
Combining personal diary entries, online animation and performance James Paterson's work certainly covers the gamut in this NY exhibition. Originally presented online it demonstrates the increasing acceptance of online exhibitions and genuine platforms for artists to work on. The exhibition is on show until April 25 2009. Paterson also maintains an amazing online gallery in which many of his drawn characters exist.

Paper and font nerds brace yourself
Originally posted on nubby twiglet, was this delightful mix of massive font nerdiness combined with the self-righteous and delicious allure of a moleskine product all wrapped into one. Design Milk is also now reporting that the product, a font book of Helvetica designed by Moleskine may be available before sale. This is gratuitous only at this point, but you can't help wondering how both Helvetica and Moleskine have managed such a cult following amongst artists and writers and those who attempt to be.

Between Site & Space at Artspace
Installation view of Paramodel, pilot plan — p class architect office — , Artspace, Sydney, 2009
Installation view of Paramodel, Paramodelic CC [Car/Construction] Parking Space P.CC.P., Artspace, Sydney, 2009
Between Site & Space
This exhibition is a great example of the great work that comes from many collaborations between artists and architects, as well as the joy that comes from a free flowing dialogue and open mind. The use of small cars, animals and other unusual materials make for a very youthful but still engaging exhibition. Currently showing until the 18 April 2009.
With artists EXONEMO, ALEX GAWRONSKI, PARAMODEL, GAIL PRIEST, TIM SILVER, HIRAKU SUZUKI the exhibition is a culmination of a collaboration between Tokyo Wonder Site and Artspace and curators Reuben Keehan and Hisako Hara.
There will also be a conference held at the end of the exhibition on the 17-18 of April, entitled
SPACES OF ART. Where a discussion on institutional / post-institutional curatorial and related practices in contemporary art will take place. See artspace.org.au for more info.

Ben Quilty, There But For The Grace Of God Go I No. 2, 2009
Sydney gallery GRANTPIRRIE is certainly having a great week, Lionel Bawden just won the Wynne Prize last week and artist Ben Quilty (who they also represent) was stated by The Australian to be part of the final two paintings considered for the winner of the Archibald Prize for 2009. Quilty has now won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for $150,000 with a painting of Jimmy Barnes, similar to one entered into the Archibald There But For The Grace Of God Go I No. 2.

2009 Wynne Prize winner
Lionel Bawden
The amorphous ones (the vast colony of our being)
This beautiful sculpture stood out among the usual landscapes and was certainly presented in a prime location. The work was also a nice break from the strong personalities of the Archibald and some of the overwhelming painting techniques. The work was well crafted and a joy to look at. The natural shapes explored our emotional connect to landscape and was a great representation of a contemporary take on this genre. Lionel's speech was very sweet and humble, congratulations to him and his representing gallery GRANTPIRRIE.
